Those with a fondness for cult British comedies, or comedy horrors in general, will spot the reference from a mile off. But even if the name You've Got Red On You passes you by at first, if you've ever watched Shaun Of The Dead there's a chance the tasting notes on the cans will bring it all back like a cricket bat to the head.*
As for the beer and its proferred style category, that also brings back thoughts of yesteryear, albeit a more recent one in which brewers loved to play around with putting "session" in front of huge beers, or just adding lots of XXXs or IIIs to abbreviations. Here, it's a session red IPA and also a beer that could just as easily have been called an American amber (but that wouldn't work with the name, James).
Either way, lean, earthy, faintly citrusy hops (there's a suitably old school quintet of Amarillo, Citra, Cascade, Cascade Cryo and Chinook doing the legwork) come up against biscuity malts so biscuity they're genuinely like biting into a classic biscuit – perhaps a ginger nut dipped in tea but with the ginger spice replaced by an IPA level of bitterness.
*Apologies to any English readers for mentions of a film shot in your homeland in the same paragraph as "cricket bat" and "head".
